“Never thought about radio play technique but in the dead of t’other night got a nice gruesome idea full of cartwheels and dragging of feet and puffing and panting which may or may not lead to something.”

Samuel Beckett, letter to a friend

Maddy Rooney trudges down a country road towards the train station. It’s her husband’s birthday, and she’s going to surprise him by meeting him. On the way, she meets a number of local men — some friendly, some not. At the station Maddy learns that the train is late, which fills her (and us) with foreboding. Her husband eventually arrives, and his story about the delay is both evasive and unsettling. What really happened to that child on the train?
